Question: Discuss about the Case Study of CG toys. Answer: Introduction The issue presented in the question is that G.G. Toys in its decision to produce reindeer dolls during the months of July, August and September had expanded its production capacity. As a result, of such an action the expanded part of the plant would remain idle from October to June. This study focuses on the ethical implications on the employees of the Chicago plant for remaining idle for the specified time period. Ethical implications on the employees due to the change in the operational environment The primary ethical implication with the extended part of the plant that the employees would face is that it would constantly remind them of the new facilities or changes that business is undergoing in order to survive the crisis it is facing in the recent times. Though, the expansion of the plant may be good news to a lot of employees as they would on the ground of availability heuristic attribute the fact of expanding the manufacturing plant to the indications of growth and development in business, the fact that the plant would remain idle would be a bit demoralizing for the employees (Ferrell Fraedrich, 2015). The implementation of new machineries and technology that is required for the production of new line of products would require training on the part of the existing employees for using the new machines of the plant. Now, this particularly requires coordination and effective communication among the employees and the management. The employees resisting change would never welcome such training exercises as a part of their increased job responsibility (Anderson, 2016). Training the employees would also mean that they either have to arrange for time within their work schedule to impart for the purpose of training or they have to stay back after work for the same purpose. This requires real enthusiasm on the part of the employees as extra work hours are never appreciated until they are paid for. Therefore, after proper observance of the situation the management at G.G.Toys might declare a monetary incentive for the employees for the extra hours that they stay back in the office for the purpose of getting trained (Weiss, 2014). The extra cost involved in the setting up of the extension of the plant, have to be offset by the existing workers of Chicago. This means that the employees have to work more in order to generate revenue that offset the increased cost of production involved in the extended part of the plant. Moreover, the fact that the plant would remain idle from October to June would add to the cost of production along with burdening the employees with increased work load. This again calls for change in the costing structure of the company that has been recommended in the other part of this project. An improved costing structure would not only reduce the cost of production but also relieve the employees of the extra burden of work (Carroll Buchholtz, 2014). Conclusion Thus, it is clear from the above discussion that the expansion of the production capacity is surely to have ethical implications on the employees of the organization.
